Therefore a really quick and simple way of having any success at consuming your five a day is by creating a quick and easy healthy breakfast omelette but packing it full of your favourite veg!
We're going to show you how to create a delicious omelette with peppers, spring onions, chorizo and feta.
But first, let's do some myth busting!
Do Eggs Cause Cholesterol?
In the past it was thought that people should limit the number ofeggs they eat to three to four a week because they contain cholesterol - It is the egg yolks that have the cholesterol.
However, the misconceptions around eggs and cholesterol largely stemmed fromincorrect conclusionsdrawn from early research that dietary cholesterol contributed to raised blood cholesterol levels.
The British Heart Foundation states thateggs are in fact low in saturated fat and there is now no restriction on the number of eggs you should consume.
It is now moreimportant to be conscious of how you cook your eggsand what you eat them with.
How Many Eggs Can I Eat?
There are a lot of questions regarding thehealthiness of eggs and the impact they can have upon cholesterol.
For most people there is currently no limit on the number of eggs that you can eat in a week.
However, because the recommendation has changed over the years, it's often a common source of confusion.
In the past a restriction oneggs was recommended because we thought that foods high in cholesterol (including liver, kidneys and shellfish, as well as eggs) could have an impact oncholesterol levels in the body.
However, as research in this area has developed, so has our understanding of how foods that contain cholesterol affect people’s hearthealth.
For most people, the amount ofsaturated fat they eat has much more of an impact on their cholesterol than eating foods that contain cholesterol, like eggs and shellfish.
So unless you are advised otherwise by your doctor or dietician, if you like eggs, you can include them as part of abalanced and varied diet.
A word about eggs because eggs is something else you can upgrade.
Now my favourite eggs are from a lady who lives down the road who has, "Hand-gathered, free to roam, organically fed eggs.”
They taste incredible.
So if you ever have any trouble poaching eggs it’s probably because you’re using ones from the supermarket and they’re just not fresh enough.
To get the perfect poached eggs, they need to be really fresh.
You can do a little test to check the freshness of your eggs by placing them in a cup of water;
If you don’t like eggs, try a different egg. It may be that you’ve been trying the wrong eggs!
