Epic Homemade Guacamole

Do you love nachos, fajitas and guacamole?  Me too.  It’s Saturday. Maybe you’re entertaining guests this evening or maybe you’re just kicking back and binging Netflix and craving some guacamole!

The Inspiration

I used to buy guacamole from the supermarket, the fresh stuff, not tinned or from a jar. But it is so ridiculously easy to make and tastes 100% better than anything store-bought.

Avocados are so good for you! They contribute nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, making it a great nutrient-dense food choice. The avocado is virtually the only fruit that contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fat – good fat!

Sam and Tim took me to a restaurant in Edinburgh called The Basement.  It is AWESOME.  They have amazing cocktails and their Mexican-inspired food rivals any Chiquitos.  Sam had been going on about how incredible their guacamole and nachos were - so I couldn't wait to try it.  She wasn't wrong.  They bring a little stool out to your table and make the guacamole in front of you. Exactly how you like it.

Since this day, I have not been able to eat homemade guacamole. It just doesn't compare to the store-bought stuff!  So here is our very inspired Epic Homemade Guacamole.

Homemade Guacamole Recipe

In my homemade guacamole, I simply use avocado, chopped tomato, fresh chilli, garlic, red onion, fresh coriander, and lime juice.

  • Add all of your ingredients to a bowl and mix them all together
  • Try not to mash, but more 'smash' the avocado
  • Then add the lime juice. That’s going to stop it from going weird and brown. If you give your lime a wee roll on a hard surface before you try to squeeze it, you’ll get a bit more juice out.
  • Mix it up a bit more, with a touch of ground sea salt to your taste. Then put that in the fridge.

What Can I Eat With My Guacamole?

You could probably try to find a gluten-free, corn-free or hand-baked healthy tortilla chip, but to be fair, if you want to eat tortilla chips, eat tortilla chips.

Enjoy them.

Put something good on them though! Homemade guacamole, humus or tzatziki.

Finally, load your tortilla chips up with your Epic Homemade Guacamole and sit and enjoy with friends.

What Can I Do With An Unripe Avocado?

There are some methods to figure out whether an avocado is ripe or not. Here's a cool video that shows you.

One thing I have found you can do with unripe avocado is to slice it up, wrap the avocado slices in streaky bacon and bake them in the oven.

You get epic bacon avocado chips which taste incredible dipped in garlic mayonnaise.

It’s amazing. (But you probably don’t want to eat too much of that!)

There you have it. Your perfect Saturday night nibbles are sorted!
