Collagen Greens vs Vital Proteins: an honest UK comparison

August 13, 2026 7 min read

Two blocks of measured powder piles on concrete, the lower block roughly twice the size of the upper. Headline: That tub is a fortnight.

You are weighing up Collagen Greens vs Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, with both tabs open. Both are UK powders with collagen in them. That is where the likeness stops.

So here is the fact you came for, first. Vital Proteins gives you 20g of collagen per serving. Collagen Greens gives you 4g. Theirs is five times ours. If a big collagen dose is what you want, buy theirs. We won’t talk you out of a number that plain.

The useful question is a different one: what else are you buying this month?

Vital Proteins’ UK range is collagen and only collagen. No greens. No creatine. One scoop of ours carries all three. So this is not one tub against another. It is one tub against three.

THE SHORT VERSION

One scoop, or three tubs

Vital Proteins wins on collagen dose. It loses on the rest of the basket. To match one scoop of Collagen Greens you need their tub, a greens powder and a tub of creatine. On Holland & Barrett shelf prices that is £2.15 a day. Collagen Greens is £1.33 a day on subscription, or £1.44 with delivery.

4g bovine collagen peptides 4g creatine monohydrate 33 servings a pack Made in the UK

Their tub is a fortnight. Ours is a month.

The 284g tub is the one most people picture. Their own label sets a serving at 20g. So 284g holds 14.2 servings. That is a fortnight of daily use, not a month.

A pack of Collagen Greens holds 33 servings. That is a month with a couple of days spare.

Now the shelf prices read differently. Here is the same collagen in three UK shops, in both tub sizes, checked August 2026.

  • 284g at Holland & Barrett, £22.49 — £1.58 a day
  • 284g at medino, £21.75 — £1.53 a day
  • 284g on Amazon UK, from £31.99 — £2.25 a day
  • 567g at medino, £29.69 — £1.05 a day
  • 567g at Holland & Barrett, £37.49 — £1.32 a day

Collagen Greens is £1.33 a day on Subscribe & Save. That is £44 a month plus £3.50 delivery, so £1.44 delivered. Your first month is £38.50, or £42.00 with delivery.

Bought direct from the brand it costs more again — roughly £2 a serving before delivery. Their site blocks us from checking, so treat that one as a ballpark.

The same tub swings from £21.75 to £31.99. Where you buy matters more than which collagen you buy. And Vital Proteins is not clearly cheaper than us per day. There is more per-day maths in our guide to greens powder cost per day.

Now add the two tubs they do not sell

Their UK list is Collagen Peptides, Marine, Beauty, flavoured tubs, bundles and sachets. No greens powder. No creatine.

So to match one scoop you buy three products, and here is what each of them costs at real August 2026 prices.

The high-street stack

Everything here comes from Holland & Barrett, at today’s shelf prices.

  • Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides 284g, £22.49 — £1.58 a day
  • Holland & Barrett Supergreens 165g, £9.99 — £0.33 a day
  • Optimum Nutrition Micronised Creatine 317g, £15.40 — £0.24 a day

That is £2.15 a day, about £64.50 a month. Ours is £1.33, or £1.44 delivered.

The premium stack

Buy the collagen direct. Buy AG1 for your greens. Pay full price for creatine. That is about £2.11 on that ballpark direct price, plus £2.63, plus £0.35. Call it £5.09 a day, or £152.70 a month. We set out the AG1 side of that in our AG1 comparison.

The bargain-hunter stack, which beats us

Now the version we lose to, because you would find it yourself soon enough.

Buy the 567g tub from a discount pharmacy at £29.69. Catch the Holland & Barrett greens on promo at £4.50. Catch Bulk’s 500g creatine on promo at £12.99.

That is £1.05 plus £0.15 plus £0.13. £1.33 a day. Line-ball with us, and it hands you 20g of collagen and 5g of creatine. More of both actives than our scoop carries.

We’re not going to pretend that away. Shop well and you can match us on money, and beat us on dose.

Two caveats. That is three orders from three retailers, each with its own delivery threshold. Time it badly and you add £8 to £12, which lands you nearer £1.60 a day. And a promo price is only a promo price.

Where Vital Proteins genuinely wins

  • Collagen dose. 20g against our 4g. There is no arguing around it.
  • Protein. 18g a serving. Collagen Greens is not a protein product.
  • Allergens. Theirs says “may contain milk” and nothing else. Ours may contain wheat, barley, celery and gluten. If you avoid gluten, wheat or barley, Vital Proteins is the safer buy. We use wheatgrass and barley grass, we are not certified, and we will not dress that up.
  • Taste and choice. The unflavoured tub has one ingredient in it. Their reviewers say it vanishes into coffee. There is a Cocoa version and a Beauty range too. Ours is earthy, because it is mostly plants.
  • You can buy it this afternoon. It is on Holland & Barrett shelves nationwide, plus Amazon and pharmacies. We sell direct only.
  • Review depth. 4.7 stars from 2,521 Holland & Barrett reviews, and 4.5 stars from 12,280 Amazon UK ratings. Collagen Greens has 22 Judge.me reviews at 5.0 stars. Their proof runs far deeper than ours.

Where Collagen Greens wins

Creatine at a dose that counts. Ours has 4g of creatine monohydrate per serving. The usual daily maintenance range is 3g to 5g. Vital Proteins has none, and sells none. There is more on why that matters from about 40 onwards in our piece on creatine for women over 40.

A serving you can measure. Ours is 12.6g, about 2.5 teaspoons, with a scoop in the bag. Theirs is 20g, or roughly four tablespoons, judged by eye. Vital Proteins removed the scoop. Four tablespoons is the most repeated grumble in the category.

One scoop instead of three tubs. This sounds like a convenience point. It is really a question about week six. Three tubs means three restock dates and three chances to forget. Most stacks do not die because they stopped working. They die because one tub ran out.

Greens, and help absorbing them. Nine plant ingredients, from spinach and wheatgrass to chlorella, spirulina and blueberry. Modestly dosed, and we will not oversell them. There is a DigeZyme® six-enzyme complex and bromelain alongside them. The single-ingredient tub has none of that.

Who you buy from. Lean Greens is a UK independent, trading since 2012 from its own Newcastle warehouse. Vital Proteins is a Nestlé brand. Whether that matters is your call.

So which one should you buy?

Buy Vital Proteins if a 20g collagen dose is the whole point. Or if you avoid gluten, wheat or barley. Or if you want one ingredient and nothing else. Or if you want to buy it on the high street today. Or if you already own greens and creatine, and are happy running three products.

Buy Collagen Greens if you want creatine at a real dose as well as collagen. Or if you know you will manage one scoop and not three tubs. Or if you want a month a pack rather than a fortnight. Or if a 60-day guarantee on an opened bag matters to you. You do have to be fine with an earthy, unflavoured powder and a modest collagen dose.

Questions people ask

Is 4g of collagen enough, or do I need 20g?

It depends what you are after. The published skin trials use doses in the 2.5g to 5g range, not 20g. One gave 69 women either 2.5g or 5g a day for eight weeks. Those studies used specific branded peptides. So that is a fact about the research, not a promise about our powder. If you want the big number, theirs is the tub.

How many servings are in a Vital Proteins tub?

The 284g tub holds 14.2 servings at their own 20g dose. The 567g tub holds 28.35. Ours holds 33. Do that sum before you compare price tags.

Is Collagen Greens gluten-free?

No. It contains wheatgrass and barley grass, and the label says it may contain wheat, barley, celery and gluten. We are not certified gluten-free and we don’t claim to be. If you are coeliac or avoiding gluten, buy Vital Proteins instead.

Can I take both?

Nothing stops you. Some people want a large collagen dose plus creatine and greens. Just be honest about week six. Two things to remember a day, and the second one usually slips.
